Dr. Anastasios John Pelias
Anastasios John Pelias, MD, age 72, passed away at The Five Towns Premier Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, in the town of Hempstead, NY while surrounded by loving family on Thursday, December 10, 2020.
Dr. Pelias was born and raised in Athens, Greece and graduated with honors from the Medical University of Athens. He emigrated to Boston, MA where he pursued his passion for saving lives as a cardiac surgeon. He continued his profession throughout various hospitals in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New York. Saving lives in his profession meant a lot to him. In his leisure, he collected comic books and stamps. But above all, he cherished the time spent with family and friends and will be deeply missed by those he leaves behind.
Anastasios is survived by his loving children, Kyriaki Mitchell (Steven), Eugenia Schoenhofer (David), Joanna Checki (Mark); dear grandchildren, Timothy John, Eleni Shirley, Anastasios George, Andrew David, Jonathan Edward, Anastasia Rose; first wife, Eleni Loukaki Swientisky; friends, Dr. John Psimitis and Aldo Marcozzi; cousin, Penny Rentezelas; and many cousins and friends in the US and in Greece.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, December 16th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Mount Laurel Home for Funerals, 212 Ark Road, Mount Laurel NJ. A subsequent visitation will be held the following morning, Thursday, December 17th from 11:30 to 12:30 PM immediately followed by the funeral mass, both at Saint Thomas Greek Orthodox Church, 615 Mercer Street, Cherry Hill, NJ 08002. Social distancing guidelines apply and a face mask is mandatory to enter the church. There is a maximum of 90 people allowed in the church at one time.
