Obituary for Ann Madeline Ward (Gleason)

Ann Madeline Ward (nee Gleason), age 82, passed away at home on October 21, 2020 surrounded by her loving family.

Ann was the 4th of 11 children born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania before moving to Mount Laurel, New Jersey, over 30 years ago in 1990. She worked as an Insurance Underwriter for Wausau Insurance Company for many years and was very proud to have earned her Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) certificate. Ann was known for being very skilled with numbers and math. In her youth she had a very close group of friends she would play basketball and hang with in Germantown. These friends would become lifelong “sisters” and remained that way until each departed. She was also a very skilled seamstress. Being tall, at 5’10” there weren’t very many clothes options back in the day…so she made her own clothes. She had a couple of new out fits every weekend. She was so skilled in sewing that she made her younger sister’s wedding dress and the wedding party dresses. She also made clothes for her young daughter. Ann also enjoyed bowling for a time when she lived in Northeast Philadelphia. Times spent in Avalon, NJ with family and friends in the summer were always her favorite. The family had a small house on the bay and happy hour was always spent on the back pier. Then the Gleason clan would set up tables in the house and spend hours playing the card game bridge. In her later years Ann loved working on her crossword puzzles and playing the game Rummikub. Above all, Ann enjoyed spending time with her friends and family the most.

Ann is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Kasper; granddaughter, Dani Kasper; and siblings, James Gleason, Elizabeth Borgmann, Kathleen Kurian, Nora Finn, and Susan Hillmann.

Family and Friends are welcome to attend her Funeral Mass on Friday, October 30, 2020, at 10:30AM from Saint John Neumann Roman Catholic Church, 560 Walton Ave, Mt Laurel Township, NJ 08054. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ann’s memory to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital at: https://www.stjude.org/
