Obituary for Antonios Canavos

Tony Canavos, age 77, passed away while surrounded by his loving family on October 20, 2022.

Tony was born in Petrochori, Greece to the late Niko and Sofia Kanavos (née Katsivela), and most recently resided in Mt. Laurel, NJ. After coming to the United States in his early adulthood, like so many other Greek immigrants, Tony spent his life in the restaurant industry. Tony worked his way through various restaurants, such as the famous Copacabana in NYC, until making his way to New Jersey. In the late 80s, he took a job working for the Mantzas/Pappas family at the Dynasty Diner in Delran, where he met his future wife, Kiki Canavos (née Mantzas).

After decades in the industry, Tony achieved his dream of having his own restaurant. He owned and operated his restaurant, Tavola dei Amici alongside his brother-in-law, Demetrios Poulopoulos, for several years. In his free time, Tony enjoyed spending time with his friends and family.

Antonios is predeceased by his wife, Kiki Canavos. He is survived by his children, Nicholas and Janelle Canavos, sister and brother-in-law Milia and Demetrios Poulopoulos, mother-in-law Nula Mantzas, brother-in-law Dino Mantzas and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Friends and relatives are welcome to his viewing on Thursday, October 27, 2022 from 10:00-12:00PM, and his Funeral Liturgy immediately after at 12:00PM. Both will be held at Saint Thomas Greek Orthodox Church, 615 Mercer Street, Cherry Hill NJ 08002. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park, 1300 Route 130 N, Cinnaminson, NJ 08077.
