A. Hunter Wilcox, VMD, age 75, of Lumberton, NJ passed away in the comfort of his
home on January 5, 2021.
Dr. Wilcox was born and raised in Montrose, PA and last resided in Lumberton, NJ.
A graduate of Penn State University and the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, he worked as a veterinarian at the Cherry Hill Animal Hospital from 1972 until his retirement in 2013. In 1976 he became co-owner with his partner and dear friend Charles H. Chase, III. He served on the Board of NJ Veterinary Medical Examiners, as officer of the SJVA, and as a member of other professional veterinary associations.
His passion was training and competitively running English Pointers in the sport of field trialing.
He remained an active member of the English Setter Club of New Jersey, serving as Board Member since 1977 and as President from 1992-1998. As an amateur sportsman he was elected to the National Field Trial Hall of Fame in 2009. He served as a Trustee of the Amateur Field Trial Clubs of America and as Chairman of its 20th Century Fund which serves to perpetuate this outstanding sport.
Dr. Wilcox is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Louise Wilcox (nee Kamman) and daughter Tara Wilcox (Philip Magen), sister Gail Overfield (Douglas), grandchildren Amanda Louise Magen and William Deke Magen, and nieces Amy Krupinski Lyden and Johna Krupinski. He was pre-deceased by his niece Kathy Krupinski-Shaw.
He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, colleagues and former clients.
A celebration of Dr. Wilcox’s life and service will be held at a later date.
