Obituary for Aruna K. Mishra

Dr. Aruna Mishra, age 82, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 16, 2021 in Mount Laurel, New Jersey.

Aruna was born in the city of Munger, Bihar India on August 10, 1938. She was a graduate of Saint Columbas College in Hazaribag, India. Afterwards, she pursued her interest in medicine and graduated from Patna Medical College in 1962 . While in medical school, she met the love of her life and future husband.

The couple and their young son immigrated to the USA in January 1968. Aruna completed a residency in anesthesiology at NY Medical College. She worked as an anesthesiologist in NYC and then later in South Jersey . Her interest in medicine was passed along to her daughter.

Aruna was a spiritual person and a true romantic. She loved the arts, Indian music and dance. She was very fond of Bollywood and Hollywood actors through the ages. Some of her favorites included Rekha, Amitabh Bachchan, Elizabeth Taylor, Marlon Brando and Shah Rukh Khan.

Aruna was the matriarch of her immediate family. Her parents would often defer to her for answers to important questions and resultant decisions that affected the family. They were very proud of her accomplishments including the fact that she was the first in the family to have travelled and settled abroad successfully.

Aruna was very proud of her children and grandchildren and their accomplishments.

Aruna is predeceased by her beloved husband of 24 years, Dr. Diwakar Mishra, her father , Ayodhya Prasad Rana, and mother, Sushila Devi. She is survived by her children , Anand Mishra (Rosemary) and daughter Dr. Dolly Mishra (Syed). Her granddaughters, Krystle Tara Mishra, Angelica Kiran Mishra and Jennah Alayna Ali and her grandson Zachariah Aidan Ali. Her brothers Narendra Prasad Rana (Sudha) and Om Prakash Sharma (Amita); sister Dr. Kiran Rana (Harish); and many cousins, nephews and nieces.

May her soul rest in peace and find paradise alongside her beloved Diwakar.
