Obituary for Celia Waring (Matwes)

CELIA WARING, age 97, formerly of Marlton, NJ, and Rego Park, NY, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2021. Born August 18, 1923 in Manhattan, to the late Max and Annie (née Meisel) Matwes, Celia graduated from Newtown HS, Queens, NY, Class of 1941, and worked for Revlon Cosmetics in New York for several years in her early 20s. Following her marriage in 1946 to her beloved late husband Oscar, Celia resided in her much-revered New York City for 68 years, moving to Marlton, NJ, at age 90 to be closer to family. A homemaker since the early 1950s, she developed and maintained dozens of lifelong friendships, many of which lasted for seven or more decades through in-person and telephone visits. Over the years, she and Oscar enjoyed numerous trips to Europe, Israel, and many U.S. destinations. Blessed with good health well into her mid-90s, Celia truly cherished spending time with all of her extended family members. She was preceded in death by her husband Oscar in 1998, sister Gertrude Kavon in 1999, brother George Matwes in 1986, and granddaughter Stacy in 1989. Celia is survived by sons Russell (Laurie) and Allan (Janice); grandchildren Justin (Dr. Jennifer Bloch), Jillian (fiancé Joshua Gorelick), Courtney, and Rachel; great-granddaughters Jessica and Abigail; niece Judith (Maurice) Stein, nephew Martin Kavon, and many dear friends. Interment services will be private and are under the direction of Mount Laurel Home for Funerals. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Alice Paul Institute or to a favorite charitable organization https://www.alicepaul.org/
