Obituary for Daniel L Blackwell

Daniel L. Blackwell, age 74, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 9th, 2022 while surrounded by his loving family.

Daniel was born and raised in West Philadelphia PA to the late Robert and Rose Blackwell. Daniel had resided in Houston and Austin, TX for over 20 years, before retiring home to spend his last 8 years at his beach house in Cape May County, NJ. Daniel graduated from West Catholic High School in 1965. After graduating, Daniel bravely served his country by joining the United States Army from 1966-1969, where he was deployed to Germany for a time. After being honorably discharged, Daniel then continued his education at Lasalle University, where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Science. Daniel spent his career working for one company. (Atlantic Richfield, ARCO Chemical, Lyondell Company). Lyondell took him to Texas as a System Analyst for many years before his retirement. Daniel loved to travel and host dinner parties. Daniel was a jokester who enjoyed cooking and making the best pizzelles with his grandchildren. In his free time, he enjoyed reading, watching cooking shows and Fox News. He also loved watching movies, playing games, and singing with his grandchildren.

Daniel is predeceased by his brother, Robert Blackwell, and his girlfriend, Jan Nissen. He is survived by his daughter, Dana Johnson (Michael); grandchildren, Andrew and Mackenzie Johnson; ex-wife and friend, Gail Blackwell; siblings, William Blackwell (Carolyn), and Rose Watson (Rick); niece, Kymberly Calhoun (Andy); great-nephew and niece, Christopher and Emma Calhoun; and many other loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and loving friends.

Family and friends are welcome to a visitation on Saturday July 9, 2022 from 8:00-10:00 AM at Mount Laurel Home for funerals, 212 Ark Rd, Mt. Laurel, NJ 08054. Mass will follow at 10:30 AM at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 42 W. Main St, Moorestown, NJ 08057. Interment will be private at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Daniel’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
