David Lee Moorman, age 69 and resident of Woolwich Township, New Jersey, passed away on March 30, 2020 after a two year battle with metastatic cancer. He will be forever missed by his wife of 49 years, Mary E. (Jones) Moorman, son David Moorman (Michelle) of West Deptford, New Jersey, and daughter Elizabeth Taylor (Brendan) of Mt. Laurel, New Jersey. Grandchildren Molly, Zoey, Benjamin, and Jack will lovingly remember their grandfather not only as a reader of books, maker of breakfasts, and leader of exciting adventures, but also as an excellent role model for unrelenting determination and stoic resolve in the face of repeated health-related challenges.
Born on September 15, 1950 and raised in Russia, Ohio, Dave was the son of the late Francis Joseph and Norma Frances (White) Moorman. Dave was also preceded in death by brothers Stephen and Gregory, brother-in-law Robert Broderick, sister-in-law Janet Tames, and niece Denise Ewing. He is survived by brother Christopher; sisters Cheryl McKinney and Pamela Moorman-Broderick; sisters-in-law Judith Metzger (Douglas), Jacqueline Ewing (Joseph), Candace Faulkner (Rick), and brother-in-law Skip Rhoades-Casebolt (Thomas); all residents of the Dayton, Ohio area. Other survivors include his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Dave graduated in 1975 with a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Dayton. He worked for the Boeing Company for 26 years, retiring at age 55. As Executive V-22 Program Manager and Chief Engineer, he served as a highly respected and well-loved mentor and coach, helping to build and nurture many careers. During his years with Boeing, he and his family resided in Derby, Kansas; West Deptford, New Jersey; and Drayden, Maryland.
Early retirement allowed him ample time to enjoy his favorite hobby, golf. He was a member of Town and Country Golf Links in Woodstown, New Jersey throughout most of his retirement. A highlight of his playing career was a hole in one, which he achieved while enjoying a round of golf with his son and son-in-law.
As a thirteen year volunteer in the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program, Dave served not only in many positions at the local level, but also as Regional Technology Advisor and as a member of the National Technology Committee. In 2019 he was awarded the Tax-Aide Fellow Award in recognition of his many significant contributions to the program.
Details regarding a celebration of Dave’s life will be announced at a later date.
