Obituary for Donald Reuben "Don" Katzer

Donald R. Katzer, age 78, of Voorhees, NJ, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 3, 2023 after years of fighting the odds against various health conditions that resulted from a massive stroke he suffered in 2006, and heart attack suffered several years prior to that.

Don was born in Philadelphia, PA to the late Milton and Minnie Katzer, and has resided in Marlton, Medford, and Delran, NJ before his current residence of 22 years in Voorhees, NJ. Before his illness, Don worked in the floor covering industry and started several of his own floor covering businesses spanning 30+ years.  Don was an avid sports enthusiast.  He participated actively in many sports over the years and was somewhat of a celebrity athlete in Northeast Philadelphia including holding a school track and field records for over 40 years.  Don also loved playing basketball and softball but as the years went on, nothing held a candle to his passion for playing golf and watching/critiquing his favorite Philly sports teams.

Don loved spending time with his family and friends and was often the life of the party.  He loved spending time with his children and then subsequently his grandchildren - this did not change following the stroke.  Don never lost his passion for sports and family and still engaged in ‘wheelchair dancing’ at many key events over the years.

Don is survived by his beloved wife, Andrea Katzer (nee Morgenstern); children, Dorree Ebner (Louis Ebner), and Robert Katzer (Amanda Katzer); brother, Marvin Katzer (Arlene Katzer); siblings-in-law, Gary and Linda Solarz, Jeff and Jeanne Morgenstern, and Jan Mandel; grandchildren, Dillon and Brent Ebner, and Cole Katzer; and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends are welcome to his Graveside Service at Crescent Memorial Park Cemetery, 7349 Westfield Avenue, Pennsauken, NJ 08110, on Friday, September 8, 2023 at 11:00AM. Due to the severe heat, and to honor Don’s love of golf, please feel free to dress 'resort casual' with a golf shirt or sundress.

Shiva will immediately follow services on Friday, and again on Saturday, September 9th at Dorree and Louis Ebner’s home. Please contact a family member or email katzer273@gmail.com for more information.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Don’s memory would be greatly appreciated at the American Stroke Foundation or the American Heart Association.

Please feel free to share your memories about Don for the family to read on the “Memory Wall” of this memorial page.
