Dorothy Mary Alcorn, age 90, passed away on July 24, 2019 in Mount Holly, NJ surrounded by her family.
Dottie was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA and was a former Maple Shade, NJ resident before
moving to Mount Laurel 33 years ago.
She was employed for 20 years as a Waitress at the Grand Coach restaurant in Maple Shade. She retired
in the early 90’s. She enjoyed cooking and was the world’s best cook. She loved hosting family dinners,
and as the family grew and grandchildren were born, she took great pride in her role of “Mom Mom”.
She loved the Christmas holidays, and always made it special for her loved ones. She also had a passion
for country music, and for 9 years in a row she attended the annual CMA Musc Festival in Nashville,
where she made lasting friendships with people of all ages from all over the world, and enjoyed concerts
and events there through the age of 84. Her kindness and humor (and flaming red hair) attracted
people to her, and anyone who got to know Dottie adored her.
Above all, she loved spending her time with her husband Tom, her children and grandchildren. She was
the most wonderful wife, mother and grandmother that a family could have.
Dottie was predeceased by her beloved mother Jennie E. Cumming McCarthy, her sister, Jean Evans and
her brother, James Wenzell. She is survived by her husband, Thomas J. Alcorn; her brother John
McCarthy [Joan McCarthy]; her children, Kathryn Macfarlan [Joseph Macfarlan], Mark Oman, David
Oman [Deborah Oman], Chris Oman [Nicole Oman]; her step son Thomas Alcorn Jr; her grandchildren,
Kristin, Jillian, Steven, Jesse, Michele, Marissa, Erika, Karina, and Alana.
Family and Friends are invited to attend her visitation on Wednesday July 31, 2019 from 11 AM to 1 PM
immediately followed by her Life Celebration Service, both at the Mount Laurel Home for Funerals, 212
Ark Road, Mount Laurel, NJ 08054. Interment will be Private. In Lieu of flowers, donations in her
memory may be made to the American Cancer Society or Burlington County Animal Shelter.
