Doyling Gene Patterson, age 82, passed away on August 5, 2023.

Gene was born on April 10, 1941 in Stewardson, Illinois to the late Thelma and Alva Patterson. He proudly served as an officer in the United States Army for 32 years. During his career Gene was stationed around the world such as Saudi Arabia, Korea, and Vietnam.  Gene retired as a Lieutenant Colonel having participated in multiple conflicts, earning multiple honors including a Purple Heart and Bronze Star.   Gene loved family genealogy, gardening, and eating out at diners, but what he enjoyed most was spending time with his grandchildren. Gene will be missed deeply by his loved ones.  

Gene is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Ruth (nee Rice); his daughters, Katherine Patterson (John Makara) and Kristin Patterson-Maas; his sisters, Laura Mietzner, Linda Mariman and Marilyn Patterson; his grandchildren, Erich Maas, Katharina Maas, and Ruth Makara. He was predeceased by his brother Thomas Patterson.  Gene leaves behind nieces, nephews and friends. 

Family and friends are invited to attend Gene’s visitation on Monday, August 14, 2023 from 10-11 AM immediately followed by his memorial service at 11 AM, both at the Mount Laurel Home for Funerals 212 Ark Road Mount Laurel, NJ 08054.  Interment to follow at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown, NJ.
