Obituary for Edgar Bernard Darrell

Edgar Bernard Darrell passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, in the comfort of his home. He was 94 years old and lived a long and blessed life.

Bernie was born in Glen Ridge, NJ and was a longtime resident of Moorestown, NJ. He was a devout Catholic and a dedicated parishioner of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, in Moorestown. Bernie spent his childhood in Montclair, NJ and Brooklyn, NY. After graduating from Brooklyn Technical High School, he served his country in the United States Army Air Corps after World War II. After graduating from City College of New York in 1951, he relocated to South Jersey and began work at RCA as an electrical engineer. On October 5, 1952, he married the love of his life, Barbara Marion Pitts, and raised three children, Brenda, Mark and Carl. Bernie worked for RCA (and General Electric) for 38 years. The highlight of his career was the 7 years that he spent working and living in Kwajalein, in the Marshall Islands, the last 3 years as the Site Manager for RCA. After retiring, Bernie taught mathematics at local community colleges, high schools and technical schools.

Bernie loved life. He enjoyed sports including track & field, baseball, basketball and handball, traveling the world, and spending time with his family. He was also active in his fraternities. He is an Archon and founding member of Delta Epsilon Boulé of Sigma Pi Phi and he was an active member of Kappa Iota Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. He will be deeply missed by those he leaves behind.

Bernie was preceded in death by his siblings, Charles Darrell (and sister-in-law Grace Darrell) and Genevieve Darrell. Surviving are his beloved wife of 69 years, Barbara Marion Darrell (nee Pitts); children, Brenda Ann Darrell (and son-in-law Paul S. Watford), Mark Christopher Darrell (and daughter-in-law Vivian Darrell), and Carl Vincent Darrell; siblings, Marion Darrell Peng and John Darrell (and sister-in-law Olive Darrell); grandchildren, Everett Watford, Elizabeth Simone Darrell, and Matthew Christopher Darrell, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to a Celebration of Bernie's life on Thursday, June 16, 2022 at 11AM at the Bethel AME Church, 512 North Church Street, Moorestown, NJ 08057.

Luncheon to follow at Carlucci's Waterfront, 876 Centerton Road, Mount Laurel, NJ 08054 from 12:30PM to 3:30PM.
