Obituary for Elma Cobia West

Elma Cobia-West, daughter of the late Ira Cobia and Unette Cobia (nee Thames), was born on May 01,1940 in Sumpter, South Carolina. She was raised in the Baptist faith where she accepted the Lord as her personal savior. She was educated in the Philadelphia School System. She also attended Burlington County College in the late 70’s.

In October 1958 she was united in Holy matrimony with the love of her life, Louis R West Sr and from this union three children were born, Veronica West, Louis Ray West Jr. and Jennifer Cusano (nee West) She dedicated her life to loving and providing a strong and loving environment for her family. She always encouraged her children to be the best they could be and to never give up on anything they put their mind to.

On the personal side, Elma loved sewing, crocheting, music and learned and played the flute. She also had a love for spending time with her children and playing various board and card games. She worked in retail since the early 70’s and in the latter years worked as a cash office manager for 3 department stores until her retirement in 2016.

Elma will be deeply missed by those who knew her. She leaves to mourn her last living child, her son, Louis Ray West Jr. and his loving wife, Laura, and their children Louis Ray West III, and Christopher West, her grandsons, one surviving brother, Thomas Cobia, sister Thelma Howard, brother-in-law, Edward West and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Louis R West Sr, daughters, Veronica West and Jennifer Cusano (nee West) and 1 sister and 4 brothers.
