Obituary for Eugene Robert "Gene" King

Eugene (Gene) Robert King, age 71, passed away after a brief illness on December 2, 2020 in Marlton, NJ.
Gene grew up in Ardmore, PA and graduated from Haverford High. The oldest of four boys, Gene was the son the late Eugene M. “Nip” and Anne M. King. Gene enlisted in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Conflict serving notable assignments in Corpus Christi, TX and at Naval Air Station Keflavik, Iceland. Returning home, Gene’s charm and good humor led to a career in sales.

Gene loved his family more than anything. Nothing made him happier than playing pots and pans with his grandson or setting up a cardboard dollhouse with his granddaughter. Gene loved traveling to the islands with the love of his life, Marci and going to a ball games with his son and daughter.

Gene was a member of the Elks Lodge #2550 and exasperatingly enjoyed Philadelphia Sports, especially the Eagles and Phillies. Gene loved music and attending concerts and was known for his sense of humor and his ability to connect with people of all ages and from all walks of life. Gene had a powerful moral compass and was always able to do “the right thing”. He was a history buff, enjoyed constructing model airplanes and cars and was amazing at Jeopardy.

He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Marcia K. King (Nee Kane); his children, Stephanie Hope King and Eugene “Buddy” King (Jackie). He was a devoted Pop to his grandchildren, Max and Brooklyne. Also survived by brothers, Peter King (Lisa) and Jeffrey King and predeceased by his brother, Charles “Rusty” King. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Due to the current COVID pandemic restrictions, his funeral will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be directed to TAPS (Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors) at www.TAPS.org in memory of Gene’s late nephew Jeffrey King. TAPS helps families and friends of Veterans who die by suicide to cope with loss.
