Obituary for Frederick William Montgomery

Frederick William Montgomery, age 76, of Medford, NJ passed away in the comfort of his own home while surrounded by loving family on Friday, March 19, 2021.

Mr. Montgomery was born in Paterson, NJ in 1944, Son of Frederick Arthur and Regina Mary Montgomery. Fred graduated from East Side High School in 1961. After graduation, he worked for a friend’s moving company, driving trucks across the country. In 1963, he was introduced to Helen Sheviakov who would later become his wife. He was drafted into service in the US Army in 1964. Fred served with distinction for two years, earning the rank of sergeant. He first trained in Fort Dix, NJ, then served as armor mechanic and crewman in Fort Hood Texas.

Fred returned to Paterson in 1966 when he married Helen. He started a life-long career at National Cash Register Corporation, as manager of service departments in NYC and NJ. He retired from NCR after over 37 years in 1999. Fred resided in Rockaway, Voorhees, Randolph and Hainesport before moving to Medford 8 years ago.

Fred was also an Auxiliary Member of the Medford VFW Post 7677. In his leisure, he enjoyed traveling, cruises, golf, shuffleboard, shopping estate sales, and restoring antique cash registers. He loved playing blackjack and teaching the game to friends, his children and grandchildren.

Frederick is survived by his beloved spouse, Helen Montgomery (nee Sheviakov); children, Karen Shaddow (Michael), Jon G. Montgomery (Alexandra); siblings, John Montgomery (Tess), Frances Shelby, Regina Zavist (Mitchell), James Montgomery (Linda); grandchildren, Michael, Mathew, Alexandra, Jacob, Augustus, Marilla Rose; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by those he leaves behind.

Viewings will be held on Monday, March 22nd from 5:00 to 8:00 PM and again on Tuesday, March 23rd from 9:30 to 10:30 AM, both at the Mount Laurel Home for Funerals, 212 Ark Road, Mount Laurel, NJ. Mass of the Christian burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM at Our Lady Queen of Peace RC Church, 1603 Marne Highway, Hainesport, NJ. Interment will follow at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ.
