Obituary for George Michael Sanders

George Sanders, 62, of Burlington Township, New Jersey passed away unexpectedly and peacefully in his home on Tuesday, April 16,2024.

George is survived by the love of his life, Vikki (Goffredo) Sanders.  They were so content just being together and sharing their lives with family and friends.  He loved doting on Vikki and their dogs who brought such joy and laughter to them and were their “kids”.

George was born in Oxen Hill, Maryland, to the late Bridget J. Zelasko Sanders and George R. Sanders.  He is also predeceased in death by his sister Rebecca (Becky) Lynn Sanders.

He is survived by his sister Bridgett (Sanders) Riley (Bill) and known affectionally as “Uncle” to Niece Kaitlin G. Hoopes (Alex), Nephew Justin W. Riley (Ashley) and great Niece Hazel Riley Hoopes.

George was such a big part of Vikki’s family and will be sorely missed by his mother-in-law Katie Sternad, father-in-law Victor Goffredo, brother-in-law Jim Goffredo (Wanda) and nieces Caroline and Juliana and nephew Jimmy.

George was raised in Oxen Hills, Maryland and Greensburg, Pennsylvania.  As a boy he enjoyed crabbing with his father and family gatherings with his many aunts and uncles and sister and cousins and catch and release fishing.

He attended University of Pittsburgh, graduating with Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. He started his career in Boston with GE Aerospace which eventually evolved into Lockheed Martin with a total of 39 years of dedicated service.  He received Lockheed Martin’s 2017 NOVA Award which is their highest award and recognizes extraordinary members within their whole corporation.

George was always smiling. He had the biggest, happy grin for everyone and everything he would be doing. Family was everything to George.  His mother and sisters and niece and nephew would come to visit in New Jersey. They would spend a week together every summer at “Uncles” house enjoying time at the shore, zoo trips, shopping and just being together.

He was happiest at their “cabin” in Pennsylvania. He was always smiling and so relaxed. He loved it so much. He was so excited with all the plans for expanding the cabin into their dream home. His brother-in-law Bill and he were like two peas in a pod when it came to planning projects, working on a project or just shooting the breeze about the next one. There never was a dull moment with the two of them and they were both looking forward to many future projects once George and Vikki were in Pennsylvania full-time.

Relatives and friends are invited to George’s visitation on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 from 4PM-6PM at the Mount Laurel Home for Funerals, 212 Ark Road, Mount Laurel, NJ 08054.

How are you doing?  “JUST PEACHY”.

In lieu of flowers, donations in George’s memory can be made to his great-niece, Hazel Riley’s education fund. Checks can be made payable to Hazel Riley and mailed to:
