Obituary for George Earl Sperbeck Jr.

George E. Sperbeck, Jr., age 85, passed away on Monday, January 25, 2021.

George was born in Camden, NJ to the late George, Sr., and Nettie Sperbeck. He was a former resident of Cherry Hill, NJ and Southampton, NJ, where he ran his accounting business. George lived independently during his final years at The Pines in Whiting, NJ.

George served in the Army National Guard for 8 years from 1955 to 1963.

In his free time, George enjoyed listening to and attending concerts for country and southern gospel music, playing Scrabble with friends, spending time with his family, watching football – especially his beloved Philadelphia Eagles, and telling jokes and puns to his friends and family. He always lit up the room and filled it with laughter and love.

George was a devout Christian and served as a deacon and worship leader at his church for many years. Godly values and attributes were obvious in how he lived his life. George was not only an accountant for his clients, but many of them would call to ask his advice on personal matters because of his gifts of listening and Godly wisdom. George’s first date with his wife of 60 years, Esther, was to a Christian tent revival meeting where he was leading the singing.

George was predeceased by his beloved wife, Esther Sperbeck (nee Gardiner); sister, Doris Hibbs; and grandson, Stephen Edward Sperbeck. He is survived by his children, David Sperbeck (Brenda), Richard Sperbeck (Pamela) and Sharon Wilson (Ben); and grandchildren, Danielle, Matthew (Sarah), Shaun, Brittany, Michael, Ashley and Cara Oehlert (Russell).

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Grace Bible Church, 822 S Church St, Mt Laurel Township, NJ 08054 or as a tribute donation to the Parkinson’s Foundation at https://www.parkinson.org/
