Obituary for Inez Parchment

Inez L. Parchment, 86, of Mt. Laurel, NJ, went home to be with the Lord on January 2, 2022.

Inez was born May 30, 1935, in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, to the late Archie and Claire Witcher Adkins. She attended public school in Danville, Virginia. Inez married Charles H. Valentine and they were blessed with 13 children and remained close friends until his death in 2021. She was remarried in 1975 to the late William E. Parchment. Inez and William moved to Mt. Laurel, NJ where they remained happily together for over 45 years. She worked for the NJ Division of Developmental Disabilities for over 40 years. She loved her job and the special people she cared for. She retired in July, 2021. Inez was a member of Second Baptist Church in Moorestown, NJ. She served as a senior usher and loved her friends and fellow church members.

Family gatherings were very special to Inez because she could spend time with all of her children and grandchildren. She especially enjoyed meeting with her daughters for what they called the "Round Table." They would meet and catch up on everything going on in their lives. Since she had so many children and kept up with all of them, she spent a lot of time on the telephone. William would complain about her being on the phone all the time and she would jokingly say, "You're just mad because no one wants to talk to you." The banter between them kept us laughing all the time. She was a good listener and knew all the “gossip” on everyone in the family because everyone confided in her. As the strong matriarch of the family, she held us together and was our therapist, mediator, motivator and confidant. Her one wish is that in her absence, we remain a close-knit family.

Inez was a loving and nurturing person and was "MOM" to so many people. She would literally give the shirt off her back to anyone in need. She treasured the time she spent with Denny Brown whom she truly loved as a son. Inez had lifelong friends and often enjoyed lunch dates with a close group of friends whom we referred to as the “Golden Girls. She also loved her weekly computer lessons with her dear friend Mark Arsenault.

Inez loved the Lord and was grateful to God. Her favorite scripture was from Psalm 27- "The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?"

She was preceded in death by her parents Archie and Claire Witcher Adkins, husband William E. Parchment, former husband and father of her 13 children Charles H. Valentine; daughter Phyllis Valentine and all of her siblings; Jim Adkins, Leonard Adkins, Frank Adkins, Annabelle Toller, Mattie Swanson, Dorothy Toller, Lois Gravely, Lillie Stockton and May Payne.
Her memory will be cherished forever by; Daughters - Faye Koonce, Gaynelle Johnson (Al), Janice Person (Wayne), & Angie Maxwell; Sons - Jerry Valentine (Pauline), Charles Valentine, Jr. (Wanda), George Valentine (Faith), Jeffrey Valentine, Sr., Allen Valentine, Sr. (Angel), Anthony Valentine, Sr. (Yolanda), Adrian Valentine, Sr. (Debbie), & Alfred Valentine; Step children-Michele Parchment, Marcielle Parchment, Edward Martin (Patricia); Adopted sons- Denny Brown, David Bodden (Andrea), Willie Dublin (Ronalda), Pastor Cedrick (Lisa) and Mark Arsenault; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and step grandchildren. Her family in Virginia includes a host of nieces and nephews whom will cherish “Aunt Inez” forever. Inez’ memory will also be cherished by her extended family in NJ which includes nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of very dear friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation on Saturday, January, 22, 2022 from 10:30am to 11:30am at the Mount Laurel Home for Funerals, 212 Ark Road, Mount Laurel, NJ 08054. Funeral Service to follow at 11:30am. Inurnment to follow at Park View Cemetery, Medford, NJ.

The Valentine Parchment Family would like to thank you for the many prayers, calls, visits, cards, flowers/plants, memory trees and those that were able to join us physically or virtually at mom’s home going service. Your overflow of sympathy and understanding brought us much comfort during this time.
Mom was an amazing and loving woman that touched so many lives. We were not ready to let her go but we know her message from Heaven to us would be:

“A Message From Heaven:
Perhaps you aren’t ready yet to have to say good-bye…
Perhaps you’ve thought of things you wish you’d said—well, so have I.
For one thing, I’d have told you not to worry about me…
I’m with the Lord in Heaven now—you knew that’s where I’d be.
I’m sorry that you’re feeling sad, for I’m so happy now…
I’ve asked the Lord to ease the hurt and comfort you somehow.
It’s hard at the beginning, but I know you’ll make it through.
I hope it helps to know that I’ll be waiting here for you.”

To all of you, thank you and may God bless you.
To Mom, we love you…rest in peace until we see you again!!
