Obituary for James Harry Kelly

James Harry Kelly, of Leisuretowne, Southampton, NJ, passed away on Wednesday, May 18, 2022. He was 80 years old.

Jim Kelly was born in McKeesport, PA to the late Harry B. Kelly and Marie Kelly (nee BarenBregge). He was a longtime resident of Medford, NJ, before moving to Southampton 7 years ago. Jim was a proud graduate of the University of Notre Dame, where he was a two-time All-American football player. From Notre Dame, he was drafted into the National Football League where he went on to play for his hometown Pittsburgh Steelers as well as the Philadelphia Eagles. Following the NFL, he went on to a successful career in the publishing industry covering the Tri-State area. When he was not working, Jim dedicated his life to his family. His true passion was enjoying his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. There was truly no bigger fan. If you attended a sporting event in the South Jersey area in the past 50 years, there is no doubt you have had the pleasure of meeting or hearing Big Jim. Jim was a devout Catholic and active parishioner of Saint Mary of the Lakes Church.

Surviving are his beloved spouse of 54 years, Diane Kelly (nee Orsini); children, Scott Kelly (Cindy), Kristen Uccello (Jeffrey), and Michael Kelly (Amanda); sisters, Eileen Boback (Marty) and Janice Kovach (Don); and grandchildren, Taylor, Drew, Morgan, Reid, Riley, Reagan, Teagan, Harper, and Seamus.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 24, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, followed immediately by a funeral mass, both at Saint Mary of the Lakes Church, 40 Jackson Road, Medford, NJ 08055. Final disposition will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Blvd., Staten Island, NY 1036.
