Obituary for James T. McDevitt

James T. McDevitt (85), beloved husband of Adelaide, of Mount Laurel, New Jersey, peacefully passed away at home, on April 18th, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

James was born to James and Gladys McDevitt, on July 17, 1938, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  He was a graduate of North Catholic High School. After graduation, James worked his entire life at Philadelphia Electric Company and was fortunate enough to retire early and enjoy his golden years with his loving wife Adelaide.

James is survived by his wife and love of his life Adelaide, three children, James (Kathy), Kevin (Carol), and Lori (Mark Napoliello). He was affectionately called "Poppy" by his 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He is survived by his siblings Kay McDonald (Leo), Joe McDevitt and sister-in-law Mary Romagano. He is pre-deceased by siblings William McDevitt, Albert McDevitt, Jack McDevitt, Dorothy Parisi and Ruth Hoffman.

As a young boy he spent his summers in Avalon, NJ.  His passions were fishing, boating, cruises, and dancing at the Golden Inn with his wife, Adelaide. His grandchildren meant the world to him and he would light up the moment they walked into the room. Anyone who met Jim would describe him as a true gentleman who was patient, kind and loving to everyone. He was a joy to be around, sharing stories and enjoying his sense of humor. He also enjoyed watching and rooting for the Eagles.
