Obituary for James McGrail Sr.
James McGrail, age 75, passed away on Tuesday, November 1, 2022.
James was born in Jersey City, NJ on July 9,1947. He proudly enlisted into the United States Army as soon as he could and bravely served his country, including two tours of Vietnam. After being honorably discharged, James worked as a drill instructor at Fort Dix proudly training the next wave of soldiers. He then went on to become a firefighter and police officer at the Lakehurst Naval Base, where he eventually retired as a Lieutenant to spend more time with his family.
In his free time, James enjoyed hunting and fishing (a love of which he shared with his son Jimmie), playing cards and volunteering as a firefighter in Presidential Lakes for many years. He also loved his Labradors and will be missed by his dogs Bella, Abby and Gunner. He loved watching TV, especially sports and was an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan.
James was predeceased by his beloved wife, Linda McGrail. He is survived by his children, Marcy Scollay (Jim) and James McGrail, Jr. and grandchildren Hunter McGrail, Liam Scollay and Sabrina Scollay.
Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation on Friday, November 11, 2022 from 10:30 to 11:30AM, with a memorial service immediately following at 11:30AM. Both will be held at Mount Laurel Home for Funerals, 212 Ark Road, Mt. Laurel, NJ 08054. Private interment of James and his beloved wife, Linda, will be at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Burlington County Animal Shelter, 35 Academy Drive, Westampton, NJ 08060. Thank you for your generosity.
