Obituary for James Joseph Miller Sr.

James (JJ) Joseph Miller, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 31st, 2020 at The Samaritan Center in Voorhees, New Jersey at the age of 76 years.

Born June 22, 1944 in Riverside, New Jersey to Mary Zeleski and Lawrence Miller, James grew up alongside his late siblings Veronica Bozarth, Lawrence Miller Jr., and John Miller. On November 6th, 1965, James married the love of his life, Joan Scarduzio Miller, and became a father to James Jr., Scott, Christine, and the late Kelly Ann Miller.

He began his career at the New Jersey Bell Telephone Company in 1970 as a project manager. After 28 years, he retired with Bell Atlantic (now Verizon Communications Inc.). With an enduring passion for computers, James eventually returned to Verizon and worked an additional 15 years with project engineering and enhancement. James was also a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus. As a Fourth Degree Knight, James committed his life to one of faith, family, and community.

James will be remembered for his teasing jokes, bowling skills, entertaining stories, love for movies, sense of direction, and being a volunteer Firefighter for Riverside Fire Company; James made sure everyone stayed on course, whether it be on a map or in life. His memory will be cherished and kept alive by his beloved wife and longtime caretaker, Joan Scarduzio Miller, children James (Marybeth) Miller Jr., Scott (Kathy) Miller, Christine (the late Patrick) Fisher, and five grandchildren.

A mass and celebration of life will be held at a later date.
