Obituary for Joan Marie Austin

Our loving Wife, Mother and Grandmother, Joan Marie Austin passed away peacefully on January 13th, 2023 in Medford, NJ surrounded by her loving family. She was 83 years old.

Joan was born in Hill Point, WI to the late Marvin and Lila Korth. She spent her childhood years in Reedsburg, WI until she married Floyd E. Austin when they moved to Lacrosse, WI. Joan lived in many different areas of the country throughout her life including Madison, WI, Lacrosse, WI, Southgate, MI, Nashville, TN, Dearborn, MI, Bridgeport, WV, Dublin, OH, Gray, TN and Medford, NJ.

In her early years, she excelled in a litany of activities including the church choir, school choir, band, majorette, figure skating and sports. Fishing was her passion as she spent many afternoons fishing with her mother. Joan was a 1957 graduate of Reedsburg High School and graduated from Madison Business College. She began her work career at Trane company and later worked for Ford Motor Company. Joan enjoyed attending her children’s events, bingo, golfing, cooking, traveling with friends, playing cards, and mowing her grass at the farm. As a grandmother, the grandkids always came first and she was happiest attending their many activities! She enjoyed being around family and friends up to the last moments of her life.

Joan is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Floyd E. Austin; children Kelly Cunningham (William), Kathleen Lang (Scott), Tim Austin (Dianne); six grandchildren, Brian and Matthew Cunningham, Kaitlin and Austin Lang, and Dean and Luke Austin; sisters Dianne Schulenburg (Richard), Betty Dorow (John), and Sherry Clark; late brother-in-law Ronald Austin (Sharon); brother-in-law Louis Austin (Joanne); nieces and nephews, other relatives and many long-time friends.

Family and Friends are invited to attend her visitation on Saturday January 21, 2023 from 9-10 am immediately followed by her memorial service from 10-11 am, both at the Mount Laurel Home for Funerals 212 Ark Road Mount Laurel, NJ 08054. Interment Private. In Lieu of flowers, donations in her memory, may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at https://www.alz.org/?form=alz_give or your local Alzheimer’s Association.
