Obituary for John Henry Johnson Jr.

John H Johnson Jr., 92 passed away August 11, 2021 at Samaritan Hospice, Voorhees.

John was born June 26, 1929 to Louisa Bischoff and John Henry Johnson in the Hartford section of Mt. Laurel. He was a proud veteran of the US Army. John retired after a long career with the US Postal Service as a Rural Letter Carrier serving from the Masonville, Moorestown and later Mount Laurel Post Offices. John was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hainesport. A farmer at heart, John was best known for the large garden that he and his wife, Gussie, maintained at their home in Mt. Laurel growing a large variety of tomatoes, peppers and mums.

In addition to his parents John is predeceased by his loving wife of 59 years, Augusta (Gussie) (née Peraino) along with his sister Dorothy Petta, nephew Barry Doron and brother Melvin ‘Biggie’ Johnson. John is survived by sister-in-law Celestine DiPietro, niece Cecilia Lynn (Robert), nephews Stephen DiPietro and Marcello DiPietro along with numerous great and great great nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate John’s life on Tuesday, August 17th at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 910 Marne Hwy, Hainesport, NJ 08036. His viewing will be held from 10:00-11:00AM followed immediately by a funeral service. Burial to follow at Eldridge-Mt. Laurel Cemetery, Cemetery Road, Mt. Laurel. Covid Protocols will be observed, masks must be worn.
