Kathryn M. Marshall
February 29, 1916 - December 6, 2019
Passed peacefully surrounded by family on December 6, 2019, just a few months short of her 104th birthday. She was the daughter of the late Ella Cusick and Roy Max. Kathryn had the good fortune to share her life with two husbands, William Nuskey ( d. 1968 ) and Jonathan C. Marshall (d. 2005). She was predeceased by her two wonderful children, Kathleen E. Horan and William R. Nuskey, and was a beloved Grandmother to 9 grandchildren, Patrick Horan (Suzanne), Timothy Horan (Kelly), Tracy Dodson (Steve), James Horan, David Horan (Michelle), Jennifer Horan, Matthew Nuskey (Johanna), Amanda Gendek (Jeff) and Jannine Talusik (Marvin) and 17 great-grandchildren. Kathryn is also survived by daughters-in-law MaryJane Nuskey and Barbara Marshall, nieces Carol Kinest and Dottie Bowman, nephews Charles and Allen Nuskey, and many loving friends and caretakers..
Born in Philadelphia in 1916, Kathryn would often tell stories about her childhood, visiting Smith Playground and growing up during the Great Depression. After raising their two children in Philadelphia, she and William had a little house built on the banks of the Rancocas River on Martin’s Beach in Willingboro, NJ in the early 1960s. At the time of William’s passing, he and Kathryn had shared 29 years of marriage together. Kathryn then met Jon, who had also lost his beloved spouse. The two wed in 1973, with Kathryn’s mother, Ella serving as her Matron of Honor. Kathryn and Jon shared 32 years of marriage filled with family, travel, and service to their church.
Kathryn was a devoted member of the Parkway Baptist Church in Willingboro, NJ, where she spent countless hours as a volunteer tutor and friend to many in the congregation. She was a voracious reader and closely followed current events. She enjoyed engaging in political debates and was a staunch defender of anyone in society she felt was marginalized or unfairly represented. She was a woman of conviction and remained fiercely independent as she got older. On her 100th birthday she wore a pink feather boa and glitter sunglasses, proudly boasting that she was technically only 25 years old since she was born on leap day. For the last 20 years Kathryn was a favorite resident at both The Fountains at Cedar Park and Brightview Senior Living, where she often impressed caretakers with her speed, quick wit and capacity for kindness. She blessed all who knew her and will be sorely missed.
A memorial service will take place at 10:00 am on Thursday, December 12th, at Parkway Baptist Church in Willingboro, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Foundation for the Blind.
