Obituary for Lewis Welsh

LEWIS E. WELSH, JR. Lewis Edward Welsh, Jr., 74, passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at home. Mr. Welsh was a graduate of Trenton Catholic Boys High School in Trenton, NJ and of Rider University also in Trenton. He held a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) from The College of New Jersey, an M.A. in Pastoral Counseling and also an M.A. in Theological Studies, both from LaSalle University in Philadelphia, PA. As a life-long learner, he audited numerous Theology courses over the last 15 years at The College of St. Elizabeth in Morristown, NJ and the University of Notre Dame, South Bend, Indiana. Mr. Welsh taught at Willingboro High School where he was both varsity girls’ basketball coach and coordinator of “Psychodrama”, a student-teacher-parent program that addressed teen problems. The group performed at numerous schools over a period of more than 20 years. After retirement from Willingboro, he was employed at Notre Dame High School in Lawrenceville, NJ as a guidance counselor and Religion teacher. Lewis was also the coordinator of the Notre Dame Peer leaders for many years. For the past 4 years, Mr. Welsh had been attending Bible Studies at The Church of St. Ann in Lawrenceville and had been enrolled as a student-intern of Francis House of Prayer in Rancocas, NJ where he was studying for certification as a spiritual director for the Diocese of Trenton. He was the son of the late Lewis E. Welsh, Sr. and Teresa Lyden Welsh Maher. Mr. Welsh is survived by two nieces, Jennifer Grimm (husband Jack) of Lumberton, NJ and Christine Wichser (husband Bill) of Yardville, NJ. The viewing will be held on Wednesday, September 30th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and on Thursday, October 1st from 11:00 AM to 12 Noon at the Mount Laurel Home for Funerals, 212 Ark Road, Mount Laurel, NJ. The funeral liturgy will be celebrated 12:30 PM on Thursday at Saint John Neumann RC Church, 560 Walton Avenue, Mount Laurel. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hamilton, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mr. Welsh may be made to Francis House of Prayer, P.O. Box 392, Rancocas, NJ 08073 or to the Notre Dame High School Fund, Attention Advancement Office, 601 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648.
