Obituary for Lillian Cohen (Mazauskas)

Lillian Cohen (nee Mazauskas) passed away suddenly on March 22, 2022, at Virtua Memorial Hospital in Mount Holly, New Jersey. She was 83 years old. Lillian was born and raised in Newark, New Jersey; the daughter of the late John and Margaret Mazauskas. Lillian was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Jerome B. Cohen, and ten of her 11 siblings: Edward Mazauskas and wife Ceil, Genevieve Cordasko and husband Sal, George Mazauskas and wife Stella, Joseph Mazauskas and wife Helen, Len Mazauskas and wife Margaret, Albert Mazauskas and wife Marge, Mildred Mazauskas and husband Vincent, Eleanor Salzano and husband John, Florence Galbraith and husband Alex, and Richard Mazauskas.

Lillian is survived by her children: Steven J. Cohen and wife Susie, Sandra P. Cohen, and Laura R. Holmes and her husband Jim; her grandchildren: Jennifer, Michelle and husband Steve, Andrew, Lily, and Russell; her great grandchildren: Riley, Sydney, Dominic, Aubrey, Charlie Rose, and Maverick; and her good friend Ellen Reuman. She is also survived by her sister, Barbara Fay, and many nieces and nephews. She was especially close to her nieces Carol Phillips, Tina Lazarchik, Cathy Mazauskas, Alice White and Patty Owens to whom Lillian was a good friend as well as a favorite aunt.

Lillian and Jerry resided in Old Bridge Township, New Jersey, before moving to Palm Harbor, Florida, in 1999. They still loved the Jersey Shore and would often return there in the summer– joined by their kids and grandkids. Lillian also enjoyed gardening, fishing, watching classic movies on TMC and her favorite ‘Brits’ on PBS, dining out and having wine with her friends, going to the movies and the theater, supporting her favorite political and charitable organizations, but most of all, she cherished the time she spent with her family, laughing and sharing stories, playing Scrabble, Sorry and card games with a vengeance, and just being together.

Lillian was a loving grandma (Bubbe) to her grandchildren and doted on them tirelessly. Jennifer and Michelle spent many summers with Bubbe in New Jersey while they were growing up. Andrew and Lily could always count on Gramma to drive up each year to put on the best birthday parties and go trick-or-treating at Halloween. And Russell spent many late nights playing Scrabble and watching movies with Bubbe well after the other adults went to bed. When Lillian moved to Florida with her husband, she racked up tons of Southwest reward points visiting her growing family in New Jersey and New Hampshire, making the rounds and alternating holidays among her children. It was during her last visit to her daughter Sandra in New Jersey that Lillian passed away.

Family and friends are invited to attend her Memorial Service on Sunday, April 3, 2022, 11:00 a.m., which will be followed immediately by visitation until 12:30 p.m., at the Mount Laurel Home for Funerals, 212 Ark Road, Mount Laurel, New Jersey 08054. Lillian’s interment will be private.
