Obituary for Lucille Helen "Ceil" Ackerly (Esser)

Lucille Helen (Esser) Ackerly, affectionately known as "Ceil", of Moorestown, passed away on August 19, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. She was 84 years old.

Lucille is survived by her devoted daughters, Jill Ackerly, Lynn (Richard) Rohrbach and Sally (Robert) Finley and six grandchildren James, Kevin, Allison, Daniel, Kristen and Ryan. She is also survived by her sister, Veronica Walton, her brother, George (Sandy) Esser, brother-in-law, Dr. John (Joan) Ackerly, nieces and nephews.

Ceil was the loving wife of the late James A. Ackerly and the beloved daughter of the late George and Helen Esser. She was predeceased by her sister, Helen Kievit and sister-in-law, Joyce (Robert) Krestchmar.

Lucille, born on May 21, 1938 was raised in Clifton, NJ among a large extended family in a home filled with happiness and love. She attended Catholic school, received a bachelor's degree from Paterson State College and was a schoolteacher in Clifton for several years. During that time, she met and fell in love with James, also from Clifton. They married in 1963 and started a family shortly thereafter. In 1968, Ceil and Jim relocated to South Jersey and eventually settled in Moorestown. They were busy with their three young daughters when Jim suddenly passed away in 1979. With her strong faith and quiet determination, Ceil successfully raised her daughters into adulthood.

With her daughters grown, Ceil moved to Mount Laurel and began a career at BDP International in Philadelphia. She retired from BDP to care for her mother. Ceil was a devout Catholic, an active parishioner of Saint John Neumann Church, a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and volunteered in the parish gift shop. Lucille enjoyed a special bond with each one of her grandchildren and loved to gather the family for Sunday dinners. What Ceil appreciated the most in her life was spending time with her family, doting on her grandchildren and practicing her faith. Lucille was a kind, selfless woman with a passion for helping others.
