Obituary for Maureen Lange

Maureen Lange, 71 years old, of Mount Laurel, New Jersey, passed away on April 16, 2022.

Maureen was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother. She was born in Kingston, PA to the late Marion and John Sullivan. Maureen was a respected teacher, working in special education for nearly thirty years in Central Bucks and Mount Laurel public schools before retiring in 2013. She was well known for her dedication to children with special needs. Maureen was a pioneer in the movement to include these children fully into their schools, places of worship, and greater communities.

Those who love Maureen describe her as “a force.” She was committed to making the world a better place and acted on her convictions, including her work with Live Civilly Food Pantry and St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Moorestown, mentoring children with special needs, and many other causes that were dear to her heart. Her activism was fearless and inspirational - she was the first to write letters, make posters, take to the streets, and march for what she believed in.

Maureen was devoted to her husband of more than 50 years and her ever-growing family. She found particular joy in spending time with (and spoiling!) her six grandchildren, and she was a beloved presence in all of their lives.
Maureen also loved Sea Isle City, the summer gathering place for generations of her family and friends. She loved nothing more than having everyone together for drinks on the deck. She was also passionate about gardening, photography, reading, calligraphy, and besting her children at the daily Wordle.

Maureen formed and maintained relationships that stood the test of time, including with her neighbors, colleagues, classmates and countless others. She never forgot a milestone; whether it was a first birthday, the last day of school, or an eighth grade graduation, Maureen was ready to celebrate with a card, a gift, or a party. She was the ultimate organizer - her attention to detail and thoughtful planning made every occasion, however mundane, magical. She always thought of others first and would do anything for those she loved. Maureen was the glue of her family, and she will be deeply missed by all who were lucky enough to know her.

Maureen is survived by her husband, Charles Lange; her children, Megan Smith (Michael), Caitlin MacFarland (Robert), Shannon Reed (Jon), and Chad Lange (Lizzie); her siblings, Kathleen Smith, Anne Mace and John Sullivan; her grandchildren, Aiden, Ailey, and Adeline Smith, Annie MacFarland, William Reed, and Charlie Lange; many loving nieces, nephews, friends and colleagues and her faithful four legged companion, Bremen.

Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing on Friday, April 22, 2022 from 6PM-8PM and Saturday, April 23, 2022 from 10:00AM -11:00AM at Saint Matthew Lutheran Church, 318 Chester Ave, Moorestown, NJ 08057. Funeral service will follow at 11:00AM. Interment private at the request of the family.
