Obituary for Michael Joseph Gabriel

Michael Joseph Gabriel, 41 of Souderton, PA passed away peacefully at his home on July 31, 2020 surrounded by his family after a courageous ten year battle with brain cancer.

Mike was born on May 25, 1979 with a mop of black hair, two big dimples and an infectious smile. He grew up in Moorestown, NJ where as a young boy he loved sports, surfing, camping and coming up with creative inventions.

He was a 1997 graduate of Moorestown High School where he was a class officer, excelled academically, played varsity football and lacrosse and formed close bonds with his coaches and teammates.

Mike attended Boston College where he was accepted into the Carroll School of Management Honors Program reserved for the top 5% of business students. Favorite memories of his time in Boston included trips with friends on spring break, traveling to South Bend for a Notre Dame vs. BC game, and buying, renovating and renting investment properties. He was blessed to have made lifelong friendships there.

After college Mike began a consulting career with Deloitte and then went on to earn a Master of Business Administration from Duke University’s prestigious Fuqua School of Business with a concentration in Finance and Real Estate. He returned to Deloitte for four more years before transitioning to finance management roles with Sikorsky Helicopters, Davita, and Icon Clinical Research PLC. Throughout his career Mike was consistently recognized for his performance and leadership and remembered for his kindness and sense of humor. Mike had an entrepreneurial spirit from a very young age, which led to successful investments not only in real estate but also in his own business, WIN Home Inspection of Doylestown, before selling it and returning to a corporate finance role.

Mike was always full of energy and zest for life. He enjoyed playing golf, sailing, listening to music (especially 90’s), going to Penn State and BC football games, and watching (and quoting) movies. He was a technology whiz and could build and fix just about anything. Mike’s favorite place was Stone Harbor, NJ where he vacationed every summer with his family and loved going to the beach, boating, crabbing, and fishing.

Despite all of these interests and accomplishments, Mike’s greatest joy of all was being a father to his two sons Matthew (11) and Andrew (8), spending as much quality time as possible playing with them, encouraging them, and watching them grow. He was happiest when watching them play sports, having a catch with them, taking them fishing, playing marathon Monopoly games, or reading them bedtime stories and watching movies together. Mike helped the boys with all their school projects and instilled in them the same love and aptitude for math that he always had himself. He was blessed to be able to do most of these things up until the end, and we know they will cherish all of these memories of their Daddy.

In addition to Matthew and Andrew, Mike is survived by his loving parents Edward and Rosalie (Petrillo) Gabriel of Moorestown, NJ, brother Peter (Courtney) Gabriel and sister Marisa (Dave) Miloszewski of Mullica Hill, NJ, devoted, long time girlfriend Jaimee O’Neill of Ambler, PA, nephew Eddie, nieces Zoe, Avery, Lydia, and Abby and many aunts, uncles and cousins with whom he was very close.

Due to COVID-19, we regret that services must be private but a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mike’s honor may be made to the National Brain Tumor Society https://braintumor.org/
