Obituary for Monica Gillette

Monica Gillette, our beloved mother, daughter, sister, cousin, & friend was brought to eternal peace on the morning of August 15th, 2023 at the young age of 41, surrounded by those who loved her.

Monica was born October 10th, 1981 to Margarita & Roger Gillette in Brooklyn, NY. From a young age she possessed a big heart & compassion beyond words. She fell in love with animals early on (especially horses), which would later become a shared passion with her daughter Amaya. Throughout her life she grew a deep passion for cooking, effortlessly mastering dishes from diverse cultures with her culinary skills. Music also had a very large place in her life. She could be found listening and singing along to all types of music while she was cooking, cleaning and enjoying life. Monica also had a small library of poetry. She was inspired by colorful, heartfelt, meaningful words & lived by them. Monica also had a shared passion with her oldest son Julian with sneaker collecting & became the very definition of a “sneakerhead”. Monica was very much a “mama bear” and loved fiercely. Especially for her youngest son, Mateo. Monica’s greatest love was spending quality time with her family. She loved the simple things in life, ranging from watching TV shows & movies, to introducing new restaurants she found while relaxing and enjoying her family’s presence. She was fearless and adventurous, with a great sense of humor. Joking and laughing with family was part of her daily routine. Monica’s smile could light up any room, she had the most contagious laugh, this only added to her captivating beauty. She also enjoyed the artistry of makeup, which was a shared passion with her daughter, Ally.

Monica is survived by her parents, Margarita & Roger Gillette; her life partner Danny Smith ; her children Julian, Amaya, Ally & Mateo ;  her siblings Eric, Roger Jr. & Noel. She also leaves behind aunts, uncles, cousins & a host of friends. Shout out to “OU”.
