Obituary for Myra Marie Morley (Bryant)

Myra Marie Morley (Bryant)

Myra Marie Morley, age 98, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 30th, 2022.

Myra, known by loved ones and friends as Marie, was born on October 1st, 1924 in Houston County, TX to the late Leila and Leona Bryant. She was the third of seven children. She lived most of her life in Philadelphia, PA prior to her final residence in Cherry Hill, NJ.

Marie was known by all as a kind, caring and loving soul with an uncanny, quick sense of humor. From 1960 to 1974, she worked at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Having a strong foundation of faith, she devoted her retirement to God’s work as an active member of the late New Light Beulah Baptist Church in South Philadelphia where she served as a deaconess, steadfast preparer of meals and in many other capacities. She also devoted her time to being the heart and soul of her family in and around Philadelphia and was the living force behind her home being a central place to gather and for visiting relatives to stay. Anyone entering her home was made to feel it as their own. Marie was known for her home cooking. Any visitor was offered a hot homemade meal. If a visitor declined, she would gently persist until accepted. It was unavoidable. That was Marie.

Marie married Vernon Morley, Sr. (deceased) on April 11, 1946. Through this union was born their son, Dr. Vernon Morley, Jr. (deceased) (widow, Mary Morley). She is survived by her grandson, Sean Morley (fiancée, Carla Hagins Kasner); great-grandson, Ian Morley; step-grandsons, Dwayne Marshall, Sr. (wife, Maureen) and Douglas Marshall (wife, Shukirra); step-great-grandchildren-to-be Marcus Hagins and Nyla Kasner; and step-great-grand-children Briana Eduoard (husband, Joshua), Evelyn Marshall, Dwayne Marshall, Jr., Jihad Marshall, Jovanni Banks and Isaiah Ross. Marie is survived by siblings-in-law, Theophilus Morley, Jr., Helen Morley, Gloria Franklin and Dr. Joyce Ann Morley-Ball; and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins who loved her deeply.

Relatives and friends are welcome to her viewing on Friday, November 4, 2022, from 6:00-7:00PM, immediately followed by her service at 7:00PM. Both will be held at Mount Laurel Home for Funerals, 212 Ark Rd, Mt. Laurel, NJ 08054.
