Richard Horace Stewart, age 71, of Plainfield, NJ passed away on Wednesday, September 5, 2019. He spent his last day on Earth celebrating and laughing with family. He was always the life of any party.
Richard was born in Manhattan, NY on July 16, 1948. He spent much of his youth on a track field or spending time with his childhood sweetheart and future wife, Irma Ruiz. He graduated from Iona College and pursued an accounting career. His most recent position was as a senior tax analyst at HR Block. This position was his most rewarding as he was able to help his family, friends, and his local community every tax season. This upcoming tax season would have been his 15th year.
Richard was known by many names. He was “Rich” to all his friends at the local “watering holes” around town. He was “Richard” to his dedicated spouse of 48 years, Irma Ruiz-Stewart, surviving sisters Adaku Davis and Carole Stewart, and fallen sister Levina Stewart. He was “Dad” to his children Inez (Michael) and Richard (Queen). His proudest title was “Pop-pop” given to him by his grandchildren Isabella, Nikko, Amara, and Aria. Whatever you called him, it all meant the same: a good and loving man.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday, September 10th from 12pm to 1pm immediately followed by a memorial service, at the Mount Laurel Home for Funerals, 212 Ark Road, Mount Laurel, NJ. Final disposition will be private.
To all those who loved him, instead of tears shed please shed a smile, a laugh, and a sip. He would have wanted that.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Richard’s name to the Hurricane Dorian relief effort for the Bahamas is much appreciated. Donations and/or supplies are accepted using the following website:
