Obituary for Robert Wayne Bergman

Robert Wayne Bergman, (81) of Mount Laurel, New Jersey joined the angels in heaven on April 25, 2023.

Robert, or Wayne for those dear to his heart, was born to the late Carl and Alvarie Bergman on August 8, 1941 in Laredo, Texas. He graduated high school in Laredo and received his Bachelor’s degree in Education at Abilene Christian University.  Wayne later earned a Master’s Degree in Education and taught public education in Washington and Oregon state before settling in New Jersey. It was in New Jersey where he wed his first wife Rebekah and then later Ruth Bergman. New Jersey is where he called home.

Wayne enjoyed many aspects of life including travel, history, working out at the gym, faith and above all family. Wayne loved to explore the world and was very proud he was able to explore all continents except for Antarctica. He enjoyed traveling with his late wife Ruth and then later brother, Layton. He was also a very active and dedicated member of his church where he would never miss a Wednesday or Sunday sermon.  It was his faithful devotion that placed him in heaven looking down on all those who loved and admired him. He touched the lives of many individuals with his kindness, compassion and charm. Wayne always had an old school jingle or tune to make someone laugh or roll their eyes at him. He was a gem.

Wayne is survived by his three children, daughter Carol Bocelli of Green Cove Springs, Florida, son Dale Bergman of Coopersburg, Pennsylvania and stepson Emmanuel VanderVennen of Woolwich, New Jersey.  He is also survived by his brother Layton Bergman of Kansas City, Missouri. Wayne is predeceased by his sister, Geraldine Shedd from Abilene, TX. Wayne now looks down upon his grandchildren: Brianna, Jenna and Troy Bocelli, Vesper and Huston Bergman and Jake, Emma and Abby VanderVennen. He also leaves behind his son-in-law Vince Bocelli and two daughter-in-laws, Kendra Bergman and Rebecca VanderVennen.

Wayne is now an angel in heaven and will truly be missed. We will celebrate his life and give praise that he is at peace and in the arms of the Lord.
