Obituary for Robert Craig Smith

Robert “Craig” Smith, age 82, of Medford, NJ, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

Craig was born on April 17, 1941 to the late Helen and Charles Smith.  Craig grew up in Drexel Hill and was a graduate of Monsignor Bonner High School.  He attended Villanova University, where he attained a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Marketing.  Following college, Craig embarked on an amazing career in rock-n-roll.  Starting in an entry-level position in a record distribution warehouse, Craig climbed to an executive position at Warner Brothers Records and worked with many music legends over 25 years -- from Fleetwood Mac to Prince and many others along the way.

But nothing was more important to Craig than his wife Pat, who was the joy of his life.  Craig loved his entire family and was particularly fond of family vacations in Ocean City, NJ and spending time (as “Pop-Pop”) with his eight wonderful grandchildren in his backyard pool in Rosemont, PA.  In addition to music, Craig’s hobbies included Villanova basketball (Go Nova!), reading books and visiting art museums with his wife.  His retirement days were energized by his volunteer cafeteria work at St. Katherine of Siena School with his “Smith” grandkids in Wayne, PA and cheering on his “Walters” grandkids on the Cherokee sports fields in Marlton, New Jersey.

Craig is predeceased by his loving wife of 53 years, Patricia (nee Coan) and sisters, Judy Smith and Helen “Chum” Friel. He is survived by his children, Robert “Craig” Smith (Monica) and Stephanie Walters (Neal); his sister, Frances Richardson; grandchildren, Griffin, Darby, Abigail, Lindsey, Jack, Andy, Will and Kelly. Craig leaves behind loving nieces, nephews and friends.
