Obituary for Vasilia Bessie Pappas
Vasilia Bessie Pappas, 88, passed away peacefully on December 19, surrounded by her family
Bessie was the youngest of 4 children of George and Acreve Phillips of Westfield Massachusetts. She was married to Perry for 45 years and together they raised 4 children Thaddeus (Carol), Perry (Sandra), Maria (Joe) and George (Dottie). Bessie also has 6 grandchildren, Amanda, Nicole (Matt), Justin, Ariel, Alana, Brandon and 1 great grand-daughter Carly.
Perry and Bessie became members of St Thomas Greek Orthodox Church when they moved to Cherry Hill in 1972. In 2011 Bessie was the St Thomas Parish Honoree for the second annual Metropolitan Evangelos Ambassador Award
Bessie was President of the St Irene Philoptochos Society from 1982 to 1984 and served on the board for many years. She volunteered in the church office, helped with the monthly mailing and visited the homebound. She chaired the baking department for the Agora for many years, always arriving early and leaving last. In recognition of all her endeavors, she was awarded the St Paul medal from Bishop Silas.
Family and friends are invited to attend her viewing on Sunday December 22, 2019 from 6:30-8:30PM and again on Monday December 23rd from 10-11AM immediately followed by her Funeral Service all at the St. Thomas Greek Orthodox Church 615 Mercer Street, Cherry Hill, NJ 08002. Interment will take place in Locustwood Cemetery, Cherry Hill. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to St Thomas Greek Orthodox Church
