Obituary

William Henry Stoop, Jr., of Maple Shade, NJ passed away on Friday, April 3, 2020, in the comfort of his home. He was 89 years old.

Mr. Stoop was born in Trenton, NJ. He had previously resided in Mount Laurel, NJ for almost 50 years. Mr. Stoop served his country honorably in the United States Navy, during the Korean War. His distinguished military service was a great source of pride for him. After his military service, he worked as the Burlington County Planning Administrator for many years. He ended his career as the Planning Administrator for Medford Township, NJ, retiring in 1999. Mr. Stoop was a devout Presbyterian and was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Moorestown, where he served as a Deacon and an Elder of the Church. He was also heavily involved with the Freemasons, the Shriners, and the Royal Order of Jesters organizations. Mr. Stoop founded the Shriners Annual Burlington County Golf Tournament, which has raised tens of thousands of dollars over the last 30 plus years.

Mr. Stoop was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joan (nee Shields), in 2016. Surviving are his sons, Douglas, Russell, Daniel, William R. (Jo Ann), and Michael (Tina); and 9 grandchildren.

My name is William R. Stoop affectionately known as Randy (#4). My father was buried today 4/8/20, in a very small and intimate setting. My brother Mike (#5) was the sole force behind making sure our Dad's passing was handled with the utmost dignity and respect during these unprecedented times our individual communities are going through. I know in my heart how proud Dad was of all of his sons, but more so today of Mike. One of the things I'll miss most about my Dad is his commanding voice. He was my voice of reason in good times and bad. He always knew what to say and how to say it. I think all my brothers would attest to that. I'll miss our conversations about our lives together and our common bond of being NAVY men.
Honor Courage and Commitment
Fair Winds and Following Seas Dad !!!
Love and miss you,
