James Howard (Jim) Shelton, Sr., age 88, of Mount Laurel, NJ passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 13, 2018.

Jim was born in Chester, PA and spent his childhood in Groveville, NJ. After marrying Irene, he moved to Morrisville, PA, then to Colorado before moving to Mount Laurel in 1972. He was a proud graduate and lifelong supporter of Hamilton High School. After joining the Army and then attending the United States Coast Guard Academy, he earned a BA from the University of Pennsylvania. Jim was also a passionate coach of many youth sports teams within the Greentree Youth (now Mt. Laurel) Recreation. In his leisure he enjoyed playing Bridge, golfing and traveling around the country. But above all else, he cherished time spent with family and will be deeply missed by those he leaves behind.

Jim is survived by his beloved spouse, Irene Shelton (nee Franckowiak); children, Nancy Shelton Votel, Karen Shelton, Susan Light, Jane Shelton Yosko (John), James Shelton Jr. (Maryanne); sister, Norma Deck; grandchildren, Jaime, Madelyn, James, Erica, John Nicholas, Tracy, Sara, Spencer; great-grandchildren, Eli, Everly, Jack, Fox; sisters-in-law, Theresa Bogdan, Ethel Shelton; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Shelton; sister, Margaret Tremitiere (Joe); brother-in-law William Bogdan; son-in-law, Jay Votel.

At the request of the family, funeral services will be private. Memorial donations in Jim’s name may be made to The United States Coast Guard Academy (USCGA) Alumni Association, Class of 1953, or a charity of your choice. Arrangements made by Mount Laurel Home for Funerals.
