Obituary for Camille Buchanan

Camille Victoria Buchanan was a vibrant and beautiful woman who always gave her best and inspired others to do the same. She always fought hard for what she believed in. She fought a valiant battle against a very aggressive cancer for over a year, which ended on Saturday, May 16, 2015. Camille was born on September, 30, 1949, in Philadelphia, PA to Alfred and Sarah Seabrook (both deceased). She had one sister, Valarie Seabrook, of Boston, MA. She graduated from Kensington High School for Girls and began studies at Temple University. At Temple, she met her future husband and soulmate, Harold S. Buchanan, Jr. of Bellport, NY. The couple supported each other’s activities and were rarely separated. Camille and Harold made their home in Philadelphia, PA before moving to Lumberton, NJ. They were married for 41 wonderful years and raised a beautiful family: Dawn Brown (Daryl) of Philadelphia, PA, sons, Marc and Troy, and granddaughter, Malia; Michelle Buchanan (Anthony) of Philadelphia, PA and daughters, Zahira and Shania; Garrett Buchanan (Tiffany) of Oak Park, IL, sons Ahmari and Gabriel and daughter, Jalynn; Kamau Buchanan (Chantal) of Montreal, Canada. Camille stayed at home to raise her children during their early years, before returning to college. She graduated from Spring Garden College with a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science. She had a successful career with several major companies, progressing from computer programmer, to database analyst, to manager of technical support. She retired from Merck and Company after 13 years of service. Camille lived a full and active life and did everything with great passion. She loved nature and everything natural. When their children were young, she and Harold joined a social organization focused on returning to a more natural lifestyle. They were pioneers in the use of natural and whole foods. She learned to make soy milk for her children and their daily bread. When the children were grown, the couple travelled throughout the world, capturing the beauty of nature through observation and photography of animals and the natural environment. She had a special love of birds, whales and butterflies. She was an accomplished fiber craftsperson, since high school, beginning with knitting and sewing and progressing to quilting, weaving and spinning fiber. She also loved the performing and creative arts and reading. Anyone who knew Camille knows that she never did anything half way. She touched the lives of many people and always encouraged others to do their best. She had a generous heart and loved to share her knowledge with others. These qualities made her loved by her family, coworkers and many friends. Although her sudden loss leaves a void in the hearts of her husband, children and many relatives and friends, it will be filled with memories of the love and laughter that she shared with them. A visitation will be held on Saturday, June 6th from 1 to 3 PM immediately followed by a memorial service both at the Mount Laurel Home for Funerals, 212 Ark Road, Mount Laurel, NJ. Final Disposition will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Camille’s name may be made to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, www.StJude.org.
