Obituary for Herman Vahjen

Herman Andrew, 94, passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2015 at the Masonic Home of New Jersey in Burlington, NJ after having lived a long and blessed life. Mr. Vahjen was born in Brooklyn, New York and had resided in Trumbull, CT, and Valhalla, NY before moving to Hainesport, NJ seven years ago. He was a Director of Medical Product Sales with Raytheon-Machlett in Stamford, CT. Herman was a long-time Drivers Education Instructor, a member of AARP, and an usher at Holy Name of Jesus Church for 35 years. He honorably served his country in the US Marines during World War II as a China Marine. Mr. Vahjen is survived by his wife Elyse (nee Deutscher); sons Glenn Vahjen, MD (wife Terry) and Bruce Vahjen (wife Cindy); nephew Marc Coffey; as well as 7 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife Rose (nee McCormack); sons Gary and Colin; and sister Adele Coffey. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, September 2nd from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Mount Laurel Home for Funerals, 212 Ark Road, Mount Laurel, NJ. The funeral liturgy will be celebrated 11:30 AM on Friday, September 11th at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 2 Broadway, Valhalla, NY. Interment will be in Gate of Heaven, Valhalla, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mr. Vahjen may be made to the Salvation Army, The Salvation Army National Headquarters, P.O. Box 269, Alexandria, VA 22314.
