Obituary for Marcello DiPietro

Marcello DiPietro, Sr. Marcello, 84, of Marlton, New Jersey, passed peacefully Saturday, March 15, 2014 at home surrounded by his loving family. Marcello was born June 8, 1929 in South Philadelphia. He graduated from South Philadelphia High School in 1948. He moved to Williamstown, NJ until he graduated with honors from Rutgers University in 1953 with a degree in chemistry. Marcello attended two years of Temple Law School. He then met his future bride, Celestine Peraino. On November 6, 1954 they married. They made their home in Mount Laurel, NJ across from the family farm and next to his sister-in-law, Gussie (Peraino) and brother-in-law, John Johnson. Marcello raised his three children in Mt. Laurel before moving to Marlton in 2001. Marcello was a founding member of Greentree Recreation in Mount Laurel, NJ. He was very active in his children’s lives; including coaching baseball and basketball. He was a Chemist for several companies including Glidden, Curtis Publishing and MAB Paints; retiring in 1984. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Good Counsel in Moorestown, NJ, where he was an active member of the Knights of Columbus. Additionally, he was member of the Sons of Italy and the Legacy Oaks Bocce Club. One of his greatest loves was the Jersey Shore. In 1975 they purchased a property in Haven Beach on Long Beach Island. That second home provided 30 years of memories with children, grandchildren, family, and friends. Mr. DiPietro is survived by his wife of 59 years, Celestine (nee Peraino); daughter, Cecilia Lynn (Robert); sons Marcello, Jr. and Stephen DiPietro; grandchildren Nicollette, Elisa, Marcello, III, Samantha, Stephen; great granddaughter Olivia. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Balilda “Bob”, Ruggiero “Jeff”, and Louis; sisters Anita Carino, Josephine Turic, and Jean Carino. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. A Viewing will be held on Friday, March 21st from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and on Saturday, March 22nd from 8:30 to 9:30 AM both at the Mount Laurel Home for Funerals, 212 Ark Road, Mount Laurel. The funeral liturgy will be celebrated 10:30 AM on Saturday at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 24 W. Prospect Avenue, Moorestown, NJ. Interment will be at Eldridge Cemetery in Mount Laurel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Holy Cross High School, Delran, NJ in Marcello’s name. This will be used towards a scholarship to those studying chemistry in college.
