Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Purvis Atkinson can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Obituary for Purvis Atkinson

Purvis Atkinson, age 62, of Mount Laurel, NJ passed away on Tuesday, December 19, 2017, in the comfort of his own home, surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Atkinson was born in Los Angeles, CA.  He had a long and distinguished career with the U.S. Navy, retiring after 30 years. For many years, he worked in the White House for Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush.  Mr. Atkinson was an accomplished author and had many books published including ‘Making Good Choices,’ a self-help book for teens, ‘The Maylyn Murphy Performance Method,’ and many other music workbooks.  He also was named an honorary musician of the professional band, CTO TriBeCa. Surviving are his beloved wife, Lilia (nee Castillo); daughter Maylyn Murphy; mother, Beatrice Shaw; sister, Jacqueline Francis; brother, Clifford Mattox; and grandchildren, Samantha and Ryan Murphy. Friends and family are invited to his viewing on Saturday, December 23, from 9:00 to 11:00 AM, followed immediately by a funeral service, both at the Mount Laurel Home for Funerals, 212 Ark Road, Mount Laurel, NJ 08054. Final disposition will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Mr. Atkinson’s grandchildren’s college fund.  Please contact the family if you would like to make a donation.
