Rosemary (nee Sangster) DePetris passed away on Sunday, August 9, 2015 surrounded by her family in Avalon, NJ. She was 90 years old. Born May 22, 1925, she was the daughter of James and Catherine (nee Turner) Sangster. Rosemary is survived by her devoted and loving husband, Joseph DePetris who shared 67 years of marriage together; five children, James DePetris (Mary) of Radnor, PA, Michael DePetris of Gladwyne, PA, Steven DePetris (Christine) of Pennsauken, NJ, David DePetris (Trish) of Newtown, PA, and Donna Groskoph (John) of Summit, NJ; twelve grandchildren, Thea, Jennifer, Jill, Jackie, Jamie, Michael, Austin, Robbie, Emily, Jake, Shannon, Sean; four great grandchildren, Mackye, Beau, Quinn, James. She is predeceased by her brother James Sangster. Rosemary dedicated her life and found joy in taking care of her family. She grew up on Erie Avenue in Philadelphia and attended Little Flower High School. She suffered a great loss at age 15 when her brother James died. Rosemary met her husband at the Holy Spirit Church dance when he asked the most beautiful woman he saw to dance. She was married on May 1, 1948 at St. Stephens Church. Rosemary continued to dance with Joe throughout their marriage and were very much admired for their beautiful dancing together – like Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. She enjoyed dressing up and her style was always described as classy and elegant. She was beautiful and carried herself with a kind and graceful countenance. She was devoted to her faith and it was important to her to pass on this value to her children. She was ever mindful of those in need and continuously gave to charities throughout her life. Rosemary’s devotion to family included taking care of her ill mother for many years at home. With such a large family to feed, Rosemary was an amazing cook, leaving her children to constantly reminisce about all the delicious meals she made. As a loving grandmother, Rosemary made sure that the essential back to school shoes and clothing needs were taken care of, including warm coats for the winter. Rosemary resided in Chestnut Hill, PA after her marriage and then lived in Moorestown, NJ. Before becoming a full time homemaker, she worked as a bookkeeper for Otis Elevators and later became involved in the schools PTO organizations. Rosemary enjoyed her vacation home in Avalon, NJ where the family spent time taking long walks on the beach together and going fishing in the bay. She also enjoyed gardening and taking care of her many indoor plants. In the winter months, she resided in Jupiter, FL where she loved the sunshine and warm weather. Rosemary was thankful for her loving husband being by her side throughout her struggle with Parkinson’s in her later years and for his constant love, devotion and admiration throughout their life together. She was very grateful for her wonderful caregiver Nana that took such good care of her and with so much love. Rosemary was thankful to have had a family of four sons and a daughter to raise and to love. She was grateful for her parents and family, her wonderful friends, and extended family members, aunts, uncles, sisters and brothers-in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, daughters and son-in-laws, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and Godchildren, that she was blessed to spend time with. Relatives and friends are invited to share in Rosemary’s Life Celebration. A viewing will be held on Monday, August 17th from 8:00 to 9:30 AM at the Mount Laurel Home for Funerals, 212 Ark Road, Mount Laurel, NJ 08054.
