Obituary for William Deibler

William Edwin Deibler, 84, of Holiday Village East, Mount Laurel, formerly of Upper St. Clair, Pennsylvania died February 1, 2017. He was born April 18, 1932 to Edwin and Elizabeth (Sheehan) Deibler in Altoona, PA.   Preceded in death by his parents and brother, Neale Deibler.   He was a staff sergeant in the US Air Force and served in Korea and Japan. He graduated from Pennsylvania State University, class of 1959.   He was a journalist and began his career as a reporter for several newspapers and the Associated Press. He joined the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette in the 1960s and served as City Editor, Managing Editor, and retired as a Senior Editor.   He was a Hemingway Scholar and a member of the International Hemingway Society. In retirement taught adult education classes on American writers of the 1920s at Carnegie Mellon University.   Survived by his wife of 64 years, Phyllis (Gates) Deibler, daughter Gail Finke (Scott) of Cincinnati, son Dr. W. Eric Deibler (Dr. Marla) of Moorestown. Grandchildren, Meghan Finke of Florida, W. Marshal Finke, of Cincinnati and Noah, Colin, and Ian Deibler of Moorestown, Brother John Deibler (Yvonne), sister Deborah Deibler-Palmer, (Jon-Paul) all of Arizona and sister-in-law Marlyne Deibler of Warminster and several nieces and nephews.   The family will welcome friends on Saturday, February 11 from 1 to 3 PM at the Mount Laurel Home for Funerals, 212 Ark Road, Mount Laurel.   Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 1500 Walnut St., Suite 301, Philadelphia PA 19102.
